6x8 Small Garden Shed Plans | HowToSpecialist - How to Build, Step by Step DIY Plans (1)

This step by step woodworking project is about free 6×8 small garden shedplans. I have designed this small shed so you can build one for your backyard, so you store all your tools and save space. This shed requires common materials and basic woodworking techniques, so you shouldn’t have a difficult time building it. Check out the local building codes, so you comply with the legal requirements when selecting the location and when building the shed. See my other DIY projects HERE.

We recommend you to invest in the best materials you could afford. Therefore, you should buy weather-resistant lumber, such as pine or cedar. Always take accurate measurements before adjusting the size of the components at the proper size. Drill pilot holes trough the components before inserting the wood screws, to prevent the wood from splitting. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

How to build a 6×8 shed

The first step of the project is to build the floor frame for the 6×8 shed. Cut the components at the dimensions shown in the diagram. Align the edges with attention, drill pilot holes through the rim joists and insert 3 1/2″ screws into the perpendicular components. Check if the corners are square and leave no gaps between the components.

Fitting the skids

Lay the joists on the selected location for the shed. Place the skids equally-spaced and then lay the floor frame into place. Use rafter ties and screws to secure the frame to the skids. The skids will protect the shed floor from water damage.

Build double headers for the window, from 2×4 lumber and 1/2″ plywood. You can adjust the size of the door and window to suit your needs.
